Louis XVI
Steven Lee
The king of France, Louis XVI, who was the only son of the King XV, was born at the Palace of Versailles on August 23, 1754 to heir the French Throne. He ruled as King of France and Navarre from 1774 until 1791, and then as King of the French from 1791 to 1792. At first, he was loved by his people; however, due to his indecisiveness and conservatism, led the people of France to eventually hate him as a symbol of the perceived tyranny of the Ancien Régime. During the insurrection of August 10, 1792, he was suspended, arrested, and tried by the National Convention, found guilty of treason, and executed on January 21, 1793. His execution represents the end of Absolute Monarchy in France, and the beginning of the republican government.
